To Idaho Falls and beyond!

Our car had a water pump problem right before we were to leave. We rented another and abandoned ours in the garage.

The drive to Idaho Falls was uneventful. We stayed there a couple of days with friends. Then we picked up R in Rexburg after he arrived back from a whirlwind tour of the near Midwest! He and friends crammed into cars and drove through Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Utah (where they stopped to see A), and back to Rexburg. There was a friend's wedding in Omaha. The rest was just fun!

Back to our trip:

This sign is actually by a roadside in Idaho Falls. Given the high number of concealed weapons permits issued there, I took it seriously!

This is a picture of downtown Idaho Falls. The place looks like 1955, except for the cars. Most of eastern Idaho is like that!

By the way, Vancouver to Rexburg is about 785 miles each way. Lots of beautiful country and lots of boring country. Very little city. Very nice.

I would like to visit Idaho Falls. Why does Ray have so much time off?

Ray was right in our backyard!

BYU and BYU-Idaho work on a "quarter" system... Fall = Sep-Dec, Winter = Jan-Apr, Spring = Apr-Jun, Summer = Jun-Aug. Fall and Winter are longer than Spring and Summer, but not by a whole lot. I always thought it was a little strange myself. R is now done with his freshman year. He will go to Germany for two years and begin his sophomore year in September 2010.

R did drive right by Ke-town. However, due to a missed turn in Pocatello and a closed highway delay (major snowstorm between Laramie and Cheyenne), they got behind and even missed the beginning of the wedding!

I would like to see Idaho Falls in person. Maybe Mau and I need to go on a road trip. Hey, two summers in a row with a road trip would be great!!

Rather than Idaho Falls, go to Driggs, ID / Alta, WY. The towns ain't much, but the Teton Mountains are beautiful! Or go north of Jackson Hole, WY. Jackson is a tourist pit, but it provides access to the WY side of the Tetons. Mau, bring your cane. Lots of walking.

PS. The WY side is more dramatic, but the ID side is more remote and has many fewer other people to contend with.
