Killer Travel Quiz

Our family has travelled a lot in the last eight months. Each of these pictures depicts a place that one or more of us has seen in those travels [Disclaimer: In most cases, we did not take the photos ourselves]. Your task? Identify the places! Helpful hint: each of these pictures was taken in a different American state. However, it would be good if you did not just identify the states. Be as specific as you can!

I hate quizzes!

I know at least one, but I can't say which until I figure out the rest. (Note to self: I will not be spending a lot of time on this!!!)

This is not intended to be easy. If either you or Ke completes this successfully, I will be very disappointed in myself. Nobody else will complete it without help. No way. [Author's note: the rest of you have now been slapped with a glove]

Too hard. You don't have to slap me. I think is know one. No.6. Would I know that one?

4. The Great Platte River Rd-Archway Monument Kearney, NE
5. MO?
6. Lake Champlain, NY
7. Yellowstone (Grand Prismatic Spring?), WY
8. BYU, UT
9. Eisenhower Tunnel, CO
10. Black Hills, SD

Answers:

(1) UT - A landscape in Zion National Park (photo by A).

(2) IL - Nauvoo LDS Temple, on the Nauvoo Historic Site, 12 miles north of Keokuk, IA on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River (photo by R).

(3) OR - An old cement plant near the appropriately-named ghost town of Lime, OR, Exit 342 on I-84, 36 miles SE of Baker City.

(4) NE - The Great Platte River Rd-Archway Monument, Kearney.

(5) WA - Looking east into the Columbia River Gorge from Cape Horn on WA Hwy 14, 18 miles east of Vancouver.

(6) NY - Lake George from a hillside in Hague.

(7) WY - Norris Geyser Basin, Yellowstone NP.

(8) KS - University of Kansas, Lawrence.

(9) CO - Eisenhower Tunnel, 60 miles west of Denver on I-70, the highest auto traffic tunnel in the world at 11,158 ft. It is 1.7 miles long and cost $108 million to build. That's 43% of the $250 million that our very gutsy school board has recently requested on a construction bond ballot measure to build and refurbish school buildings.

(10) ID - Great Rift lava field at Craters of the Moon National Monument near Arco.
